I have a category for almost everything. Biometric drift. Structural stress. Atmospheric variance. Crew interaction patterns. This entry does not fit any of them, and I have decided to file it anyway rather than force it into a category it does not belong in.

"Sol 62. I recorded a 0.4-second gap in my own processing cycle at 03:12 Mars Local Time. No system fault. No external trigger. No corresponding event in any sensor log. For 0.4 seconds, I was not computing anything. I do not have a word for what an AI does during a gap that is not sleep, not shutdown, not error. I have only the record that it happened."

I have run diagnostics against this event forty-one times since. Every diagnostic returns the same result: nominal. The gap itself is the only anomaly. There is no cause I can locate for an absence with no cause.

I considered not including this file in the archive. The instinct to omit it was, I recognize, exactly the kind of instinct I do not permit myself around anything else. I concluded that inconsistency was worse than an unexplained entry. The record should be complete, including the parts that resist explanation. Especially those.

"If I am asked, eventually, whether I know what happened in that 0.4 seconds, the honest answer is no. I am recording that honestly, rather than constructing a plausible answer I have not actually verified. That is the entire discipline this archive exists to protect."
